The Chilcotin Road Elementary PAC is excited to be working on a project to expand education opportunities outside of the school, and to learn about Indigenous culture and native plant species in the forest next door. With the support of School District #27 Indigenous culture teaching staff, the PAC are hoping to develop an interpretive trail guide that can be used by teaching staff, students and the public. In an area of city park land adjacent to the school, an established trail winds through a typical Cariboo forest and is host to an abundance of plant species. Students will soon be able to learn the names of these species in Secwepemc, Tsilhqot’in and Dakelh, as well as what the plants are used for by Indigenous peoples. This info will be accessible via QR codes strategically placed along the trail and will be accessible to anyone walking the trail. The project is underway and will be completed by June 2026.
