Scout Island is beautiful year round but all was very quiet early on March 8th 2023.
The high floodwaters that Williams Lake experienced in 2020 led to significant damage to many of the trails and boardwalks. Although the Willow trail was significantly repaired in the fall of 2022, (See story here from the WL Tribune) the Otter Trail’s repair work is scheduled to occur later this year, thanks to a 2022/2023 grant from the Williams Lake Community Forest.
These new boardwalks on Scout Island are being rebuilt on metal screw piles, at a higher elevation to prevent damage from any future floods, and many will be wider with railings to allow for better accessibility and increased safety for all users.
Until the ground softens, water levels recede and repairs begin, enjoy these pics taken by our Granting Coordinator, Mary Thurow on a crisp March morning that looked more like winter than spring.
