With support from the Williams Lake Community Forest grant program, the Invasive Species Council of BC (ISCBC) hosted two invasive weed pulls at RC Cotton Site in Williams Lake, a local park directly adjacent to the Scout Island Nature Centre.

The community weed pull events focused on educating the public on invasive species identification and the proper removal and disposal techniques for plants found on site and other species with detrimental environmental impacts found in the Cariboo.

With their newfound knowledge, participants removed an astounding 26 bags of invasive weeds weighing nearly 350 kilograms from RC Cotton Site, primarily in areas adjacent to the walking path near the Nekw7usem bridge.

Community members from various organizations such as the Scout Island Nature Centre, the Cariboo Regional District and Williams Lake First Nation participated in the workshops and learned how to recognize, remove, and dispose of invasive plants.

Further information on invasive species can be found on the new sign at RC Cotton Park.
