The Big Lake Community Hall is for public use and is situated along the shores of Big Lake. The Hall is central to the community’s recreational, cultural and economic life; it hosts children’s groups, fairs, school events, weddings, sports, business meetings, celebrations of life and so much more.
Until the grant award from the Williams Lake Community Forest Grant, the lake shore itself was less used and its beauty inaccessible to those of different abilities. The WLCF funds were spent, as projected in the 2021 application, for the purchase of a single lane dock and ramp that are wheelchair accessible.
The Community Association has already received a great deal of positive feedback about the dock, especially as the ramp is wheelchair accessible and wheelchair users in the community have reported their appreciation for this accessibility in Big Lake’s beautiful community space. The dock is also a welcome feature for future fishing derbies and for use by the local youth attending the Big Lake School across the road.
